It is a hot afternoon and everything sticks. The market at nine, a birthday lunch on the patio at one. You want to look like you made an effort. You do not want to feel it.

Vashti is the dress for that day. The linen-cotton blend lets the air through. It hangs loose from a seam under the bust. It skims. It does not cling.

Sizes S to 3XL, and Olive also comes in 4XL and 5XL. It runs small, so order one size up from your usual. Pull it on, drop your keys in the pocket, and go.

Material: linen-cotton blend with the soft, lightly textured look of washed linen; the maker does not state the percentages
Cut: relaxed, loose A-line with a seam under the bust and soft gathers below it; pulls on over the head, no zipper, no buttons
Length: 50.8 inches (S) to 52.8 inches (3XL) from the shoulder; mid-calf on our model, lower if you are petite
Neckline: V-neck that sits flat
Sleeves: three-quarter sleeves that cover the elbow
Pockets: a pocket in each side seam
Trim: openwork ladder trim down the front panels and along the sleeves
Care: machine wash cold on a gentle cycle, hang to dry; a warm iron if you like it smooth

This dress runs small. Order one size up from your usual American size: if you normally take M, take L. Between sizes? Take the larger one. The bust number below is the dress laid flat and doubled, all the way around; you want about four inches more than your own bust so it hangs loose the way it is meant to. The length is from the shoulder to the hem: mid-calf on a taller frame, closer to the ankle if you are petite. Olive is the only colour that also comes in 4XL and 5XL.
